Builder’s Remedy — why every Saratogan should be paying attention
State housing laws can force ministerial processing. They do not erase wildfire physics, tree canopy, or a two-lane hill road.
California’s Housing Crisis Act (SB 330) and related laws, including SB 9 and SB 10, were written to speed housing. In cities found out of compliance with housing-element rules, the Builder’s Remedy can sharply limit local discretion.
CRED’s mission is not to repeal those laws. It is to insist they are implemented in Saratoga responsibly and equitably — with real enforcement of remaining local standards, honest CEQA analysis, and public safety first.
That means tracking every preliminary application, showing up at hearings, and, if administrative remedies fail, considering litigation. It also means supporting housing that fits infrastructure, evacuation, and environmental limits.
